Hijab

Hijab
by Najmah Bint Nasser

Muslim women wear hijab with an intention of chastity
As obedience to Allah they cover themselves modestly
And proudly show their identity
To the world who treated them differently
These are our women who value their faith without a price
May Allah bless them paradise

Generations passed and everything changed
Including the women of our deen
The black hijab and niqab seem have gone
And trends kaleidoscopic hijab styles

Do you forget when prophet said
There are among the inhabitants of Hell whom he has not met
One is women, clothed yet naked
Their heads like the swaying humps of camels
And yet, the majority still does wear hijab that way
With oblivion from what has truly said
By our prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him

Let’s ask forgiveness from Allah the almighty
For our sisters who wear hijab inappropriately
I did ask myself one day
Where are now those women who wear hijab wholeheartedly?
May Allah guides the daughters of Hawwa away
From the path of those who have gone astray

How could we put the hijab back in its simplest form?
Something our Prophet would surely wants to say
Have we forgotten the true essence of hijab
It is not to be trendy and pretty for others’ eyes
But to be the righteous woman of Islam
And, to please Allah, the only God

A love letter?

Dear Future Husband,

I make this letter for you to know that at this moment, the thought of you crossed my mind. I just want to express the things I want you to, if it’s possible, know right now.

See, I do not want to be your girlfriend. I just want to be the one you call your wife. You will be my halal Prince; the one who will hold my hand when I feel sad, who will put smile on my face when my fears scare me, who will make me feel good when my insecurities hit me, who will wake me up for Fajr prayer when I feel lazy, who will read Quran and practice the Sunnah with me, and who will be my motivator in striving to be a good Muslim.

I will dress up modestly for you; I will maintain my appearance the halal way for you. I will change the bad attitudes I have. I will be a good Muslim that you will be proud of. I will continuously seek knowledge for the Muslim nation and for myself to be better each day.

I will have as many children as Allah wants us to have. I will raise them to be the best Muslims they can be. I will make sure to be the best wife I can be for you as my obedience to Allah and be the best mother for our children as how our mothers are to us. I wish we succeed in growing a family that will please Allah. Insha’Allah.

I am with the fact that I’m not prepared to meet you yet. I have amount of conflicts within me to become a good wife and start a family, much less the perfect one for you. I have much insecurity right now that still bugs me. I feel I am a failure. I feel I am lost. I have too many disturbances in my mind which I want to change myself before I meet you.

I’m willing to wait for that time, only because I know when we cross each other’s path, the time is right. In the future, I will be more patient, less moody and more understanding. I will accept your entirety, trust you wholeheartedly and respect you greatly. I am going to love you in your sweetness, and love you in your darkness.

At the moment, I know I will experience more great things without you, laugh at silly jokes with others, cry at tough times alone, discover a lot of beautiful things and make new friends myself who will be part of my life. But, I’m alright with that. Because someday, when we pray together at our room, I’m listening with your prayer and my heart thanking Allah for giving you to me, and I whisper with bliss, Alhamdulillah. You will be worth it.

I will be waiting and I hope by then you will promise to help me get the ticket to Jannah.

See you in the future.

Love,
Your Future Wife

Later is uncertain, now is yours

It is complicated for me to talk about issues of Muslim youth today regarding their faith and Islamic lifestyle; because I admit I am among the youth who are challenged in strengthening their imaan and keeping themselves on path as I am also being disturbed at times by this world.

The youth cannot deny that they easily get influenced by this busy techy Dunya. It even comes to the point of neglecting prayers, denying real goal in life which is to do the duties as a Muslim, forgetting the Islamic teachings because of being brainwashed greatly by bad influencers. Indeed, they are living in a generation wherein only few youth are willing to set aside everything for Allah, to leave his bad habits to follow Prophet’s Sunnah, to sacrifice his worldly desires for his desire of reaching Jannah.

It is also common to most young Muslims to think “I will start practicing Islamic lifestyle when I get old; I’ll pray 5 times a day when I already have children; I will be religious by then” this way they are thinking as if future is promised to them. They think of spending their youth to their worldly desires, without thinking that they increase their sins more each day by neglecting Allah and that the “when I grow old” thoughts of them is uncertain.

Youth is at risk, everywhere they look at there is fitnah or bid’ah. A young Muslim with weak imaan gets easily ruined by this world. The only way that will save them from this harmful world is to strengthen their imaan; include putting their hearts closer to Islam, involving themselves to only halal things and to surround themselves with true believers that will support them practice their faith.

Life is shorter than we think and the life here in this Dunya is just a glimpse of time compared to the hereafter. Islam does not forbid anyone to seek knowledge, to work hard to have a better job, it even encourage these. But, forgetting their being a Muslim because of being busy of these is not a valid reason.

Islam is the way of life; it is a beautiful religion if they see it earnestly. It teaches peace and simplicity. Insha’Allah, Allah enlightens the hearts of the Muslim youth of today to strengthen their imaan even they are very busy in their activities, education and career. Indeed the best for Allah are the people enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Him all the time. Let’s strive harder for Jannah, and let’s begin now.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) related to us that Allah says: "I am as My servant thinks of Me. I am with him when he remembers Me. If he mentions Me within himself, I mention him within Myself. If he mentions Me in an assembly, I mention him in a better assembly. If he comes near to Me a hand span, I come near to him the distance of a cubit. If he comes near to Me the distance of a cubit, I come near to him the distance of two outspread arms. If he comes to Me walking, I come to him running." [Sahîh al-Bukhârî (6856) and Sahîh Muslim (4832)]
